Depression isn’t drinking coffee and shaky hands holding a cigarette or writing poetry late at night. It’s not sleeping in cold winter mornings or a book store visit where you meet the love of your life and they somehow put the broken pieces back together with a smile. Depression is staying home all the time and sleeping for 4 days in a row. It’s greasy hair because you haven’t showered in a week. It’s not eating. It’s tear stained pillows and trash covering every inch of your room because the though of cleaning it makes you feel sick. It’s a pill when you wake up. It’s like slow moving traffic in your brain you want so desperately to get out off it you wanna find the nearest exit but you’re stuck. It’s therapy every Wednesday. It’s telling your friends your busy when in reality you can’t handle the thought of leaving your bed. It’s a report card with all failing grades and trying to explain to your mom that you’ll do better next time when you both know that’s a lie.
Turns out that asthma attacks kinda drain you so that on top of my 2-3 hours sleep last night and the fact I feel sick and keep coughing I think it’s probably time to call it a night… Good night
Schizophrenia: patients usually have less brain tissue
Major Depression: scans show less brain activity in depressed brain
Alzheimer’s: brain tissue significantly shrinks, hippocampus is usually the first region to go
ADHD: less brain activity in the frontal cortex (area associated with decision making)
OCD: high brain activity
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): hippocampal volume reduction (area involved in memory) and increased activation of the amygdala (area involved in emotional responses)
This is so important! I usually don’t reblog posts but people need to understand that mental illnesses are NO CHOICE! You cannot get over it, or snap with your fingers and just be okay again. It takes constant fixing and a lot of strength to get out of this. So to everyone who judges people with mental disorders: people don’t get a choice to develop a disorder or not, but being stupid and telling them to get over it is a choice. PLEASE DONT JUDGE THINGS UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND!
i wanna shove these in my mom’s face every time she says “just push through it”
